It’s Around Here is a painting I did for the Kenai Visitor Center’s juried show, Intersection. This was a chance for new artists in Alaska to get some community notice. The image you see has two hands doing the gestures mimicking the Alaskan map. The right hand can mimic the form of Alaska as you see the thumb is the South East region and the index finger is the Aleutian Islands. The theme is supposed to be on the Kenai Peninsula in the South Central Region of Alaska.
The mountain you see is Mount Redoubt. Mount Redoubt is a dormant volcano that erupted in 2009. This mountain was most known in the area when it erupted in 1989-1990. Although it is not on the Peninsula it does let its presence be known infrequent ash-falls.
Also you can see some salmon swimming in the ocean. The salmon are Chinook salmon also known as kings due to their size.
